Women Tech Makers with Qt

Hi! A few days ago we had the International Women’s day.

And that day would not pass in blank here in Rio de Janeiro, so the Google Development Group of Rio organized a Women Tech Makers Rio meetup. And on that meetup I made my second version of my presentation: Qt – Your Toolkit for C++ and Python with the real write once deploy everywhere.

This second version was a hell of an improvement over the first one that I did last year at UFLA. I learned a few about the use of PyQt, and deploy a QWidgets and QML application on Android to see how the process works. And also getting those example codes and adding to my Github, so everyone can get it and play around. It’s better to talk about those subjects now that I have a little more experience about it. And with baby steps, I share the Qt world in Brazil and learn a little more about this framework that helps a lot in my C++ development life.

The chance to made my first talk in Rio at this event was awesome. Because recently I moved to Niterói, a neighboring city from Rio, and I was searching for a place to made my first talk in a city that I love. And then boom, Women Tech Makers meetup showed up, and I loved.

I got good feedbacks about my talk, and one in special. I meet a developer, Celina, that works with R and statistics. She talked to me after my talk and we discussed to try to use Qt to render the data generated from R, and we will probably try to do something. In a quick search, I saw some Qt4 binds with R, but we will try with Qt5 since QtCharts is there. I don’t know anything about R, and less about statistics, but every new chance to learn something new, is a chance to improve myself.

The thing about live near Rio, is that almost every weekend we have events or meetups, and that is making me a better developer and increasing my network community, and networking is one of the things that I value the most in my career.
